Chris has been a professional touring musician, storyteller, songsmith, and writer for half a lifetime. She has performed throughout the United States and in Canada, Europe, and New Zealand. As half of a musical duo, she released 12 critically acclaimed CDs and a DVD. This recording is one of three solo projects released in 2011 that reflect her background in traditional maritime music as well as her versatility as a vocalist, musician, writer, and performer. She is a published author, visual artist, educator, and one-time Tall Ships sailor from Chicago who has found a new home in the very old city of St. Augustine. Chris honors her roots and remains the Co-Director of the Chicago Maritime Festival and an instructor at the Old Town School of Folk music enjoying the best of the old world and the new!
She accompanies her songs and spoken word on finger-style guitar, fiddle, and penny whistle. In performance, she also uses spoons, bodhran, and, sometimes, mandolin. Chris is joined by several fine musicians on this recording including Michael Elias on harmony vocals, mandolin, and lead guitar; Marty Groody on button accordion and penny whistle; Allen Hood on fiddle; Janine Newfield on violin; Joyce Sabato on harmony vocals; Ron Spencer on upright bass and tuba; and St. Pete Shanties on additional harmonies.
