Details:
The name of our band, “Quadrant D” comes from the " Rigor/Relevance Framework" knowledge taxonomy application and learning poster we see all around the classrooms of Bradley Central High. Within the four sections of learning, Quadrant D represents adaptation: the highest level of learning, which is to analyze, synthesize, evaluate and apply to a real world of unpredictable situations. The BCHS Rock Band class is under the direction of Mr. Gwen Shroyer with Broadcast Media and Mr. Kris Ware with Fine Arts. During the first two months of the semester, the students have recorded a CD of original songs. The complete recording process has taken place in the school recording studio and was handled by the tech students. They will also record a LIVE multi-camera DVD of the performances. The students will then create a stage show during the third month to perform during April and May. The tech students have been working along side the musicians to create the persona which includes posters, t-shirts, a website and various other marketing materials. The band tech students have also been contacting the various local venues to schedule a tour of dates to perform.

The original songs are an art form all to themselves as they declare an inside report of the life of a high school student. Songs like “Ticket to the Third Floor” show insight to the made up story of a third floor with all of the amenities of a plush life and available tickets on sale buy the upper classmen to incoming freshmen. In another song titled “This is My Sappy Love Song” you hear an insider review of the angst of a teen in a relationship that has dissolved as the girlfriend has left and he, the boyfriend is left wondering what happened. The final exams that each student take to close out their coursework has been a task which leaves many distracted while answering the questions. The Quadrant D song, “EOC” delivers the essence of this dilemma and resolves that the student is going to do their best in spite of the distractions that may or may not come while taking the test. There are also a few songs of testimony and perseverance as a student might struggle and face difficult times at this time in their life. The songs, “Have Mercy”, “Hard Times”, “You Can Do Better than That” and “Fifteen Miles Down the Road” are a positive reminder that one can do well in life regardless of the temptation to do wrong or problems that one might face.

The self titled CD, ”Quadrant D” is now available and is a wonderful display of students incorporating their learning in a real world environment of trouble shooting, problem solving and career development.
