Details:
Scenic Records scores big with such a rare find in singer Heather Baker. Pairing this teenager with producer/keyboardist Melvin McQuirter and allowing her to be an uninterrupted singer/songwriter. From the powerful vocals of "You Know Me; You Know You" to the gentle feel of "Listen", Heather exhibits such a genuine character with lots of heart and emotion. All combined with such an amazing vocal range. Throughout all the material presented here, there''s a natural consistency in her performance that seems so effortless making it hard not to listen to what she has to say. Scenic''s decision to have her write her own material was definitely the right way to go. This kind of singing, songwriting and expression is clearly an indication of someone who loves what she does.

Still was so little when I knew
Always Knew what I lived for
What I feel to look at nothing
Living for tomorrow today

Soon I see faces that I heard of
So I do this all on my own

Never stop trying when I''d fall
See myself up here in my dreams
Right before my eyes I see
Where I''m going; where I''ll be

Soon I see faces that I heard of
-over and over and over and - yeah-
So I do this all on my own
-over and over and over and yeah-
Every where I go it seems I see
-over and over and over and - yeah-
Not knowing why; I must ask myself

Why must I sing

Deh deht

I sing

It all began oh so innocent
But we knew just what we''re doing
It''s late at night and it''s on again
And it''s keeping me thinking
A sign of her all up in the past
You did me wrong you weren''t the last
My heart was broke now I want it back
Do you know what you''re doing?

You see me now so less than you did
And I feel the whole desire
I''m standing up taking what I want
Don''t be worried
I hear your voice always when I''m here
You and me always so clear
I''m rockin'' out to that same song
How many times will you go wrong

Every time I turn around
When I look upon the ground
I imagine you and me
Our backs against the wall
They always let me fall
You cannot be the one for me
Ooh you''re only my addiction

It all begins again

You Know Me; You Know You
Lyrics: Heather Baker
Music: Melvin McQuirter
Arranged by: Heather Baker and Melvin McQuirter

Heather Baker: Lead and backup vocals
Melvin McQuirter: Keyboards and programming
Kenny Jackson: Electric guitars

I feel no pain when you hit me
The stairs I fall on so gently
My blood is red and it is pure
My life''s a race when I need more
You scream so loud thought I''d fall back
I''ll tell them you had a heart attack
The skys are dark I walk alone
you step to me and you''re all gone

You know me; you know you
You blow me up; I blow a fuse
Another home is what you''ll need
Get off my back get off your knees

Steaming and I''m creeping
On your doorstep heart is breaking

So where''d you go can''t seem to see
I''m holding up to my secrecy
Why all the mouth on that young girl
She think she owns the entire world
You cry alone why she''s afraid
She''s running from this dark lady
You can still run all around me
But you can''t hide I can still see

-What''s wrong with you, huh?-
-Like I didn''t do enough-
-For what it''s worth-
-I''m gonna'' kick your (hahahahahaha)-
-I wasn''t playin'' no games-
-I''m not through with you yet-

Arranged by: Melvin McQuirter and Heather Baker

Heather Baker: Lead and backup vocals
Melvin McQuirter: Keyboards and programming
Kevin Cornelius: Percussion
Thomas Lane: Fretless bass
Robert Moore: Tenor saxophone

On my own
And there are times i''ve been alone
Memories I hold on to
Hold me here now
Can''t sleep because of you
And I know who the calls belong to
I''ve seen it all before
I thought that we could make it
For another day of love
In our lives

If I could see
That smile upon your face
It was never what it was
Until you say I love you
-woo-
I don''t need the pain
Can you hear me at all
I know it may be over
What will I know another chance
For another day of love
In my life

Hold me here now
What will I know another chance
For another day of love
In my life

You say you got something something for me lately
So c''mon baby bring it right here
You say you got a lotta'' sunshine way deep inside
your pocket
Well I''m walking on a cloudy day

You say you got something something
So c''mon step up your game
You hold me down from what I''m after always
when I''m talking
Yet your lips are always reaming

Tuesdays I''m an open door
Play it for the worth it''s for
I listen like I do once more
Just because my father says

Aaah and get to what''s real
Aaah and get to what''s real

I know you got something something you''re not
telling
So c''mon tell it right to my face
I always know what you been after even
when the night falls
You will not knock me down today

Wednesdays I''m a bright lit star
You see the lighting from afar
Now you know just what to do
Just because I wanted to

Aaah and get to what''s real
Aaah and get to what''s real

Deh deh deh deh deh deh deh

Let''s get to what''s real

That''s What I''m Thinking

This song was spur of the moment. There were no
specific lyrics. Me and Heather were in the studio
and had just finished recording vocals for another
project. I started a loop I created on a Roland XP80
keyboard workstation a couple years ago that I never
thought about using for anything and ask Heather to
sing something. Anything. I told her I wasn''t
going to adjust any sound levels or anything else
for that matter. I would just push record, she
would sing and I would play along and what ever
happens, happens. Well...I pushed record, she sang
and I played along. And what you hear is what
happened. Pretty good singing for someone who had just turned 16.

Whenever I walk around the world alone
Tearing up the images where no one knows

No I never would''ve given all if I knew you well
No I never would''ve told you everything
if I knew you well

Thought that I''d be safe here you let me go
Once you gave me wings to fly but I just fall
Pleading for someone to understand
I''m holding on to life here without your hand

No I never would''ve "gave" it all if I knew you well
No I never would''ve "gave" it everything at all

Never would''ve

Would''ve "gave" you all I need
would''ve "gave" it all
Never gonna'' fight with what I know

No I never would''ve "gave" it all if I knew you well
No I never would''ve "gave" it all if I knew you well
No I never would''ve "gave" it all if I knew you well
No I never would''ve "gave" it everything at all

No I never would''ve "gave" it everything

-Heather Jo Heather Jo-
-Ain''t ''bout no breakdown-
-Nawh-
-It''s serious-
-C''mon-
-Heather Jo-
-Tell ''em how you feel girl-

Whenever you pass me by
just know that you''re the only one hurting baby
''cause every time I''m walking I look back
and you''re biting your lip honey
Every single day I had to choose what I would
rather be doing
Take advantage or take a closer look
when I dare to say
Think about what you''re doing
now don''t be scared because I won''t bite
I see right through those big blue eyes
and I see right through them lies
Take a step back for once
and just let me take care of this talking
Thought I was lying when I said
I''m always gonna'' be ahead in life

Chorus:
Got love freakin'' out my entire life
Got lovin'' every time that I''m walking through
One morning what I do last night
Got lovin'' now I ain''t goin'' nowhere
Nooo

-Heather Jo-

-The heat is still risin''-
-Still risin'' all the way-

-Part two-
-Give it up-

So here we are once again
as always you look so well surprised
You see me walking with someone else
but I just keep walking by
Yeah I said some things that were stupid
I did not let it die
Do me favor and give it up
besides I found myself whole
Why do you have to call me so
Too late for you to come back home

-I''m always gonna'' be ahead in life-

Chorus

-Alright-
-Yeah-

-So dumb you can''t even let it go-

-Melvin!-

Chorus

-Yeah-

-Yeah-
-Part three-

-Uh uh-
-I''m done with this-
-Hey band-
-Will you please continue?-

-Heather Jo-

-Daddy where''s mommy?-

Don''t you remember me?
I sang this song
I wrote this song
Been in this song too many times
My life will go on without you
My innocence was torn when I
I seen the scars you broke the child
You knew was yours
You gave up quick
Just tell me now how you commit

If you lied then, why not lie now
If you hide things, why not find out
I am only but a woman
Who likes to fly at night
If I told you how my life would end
Would you take back all that you said
When the night falls I call your name
When the morning comes I fly away

I know a girl who doesn''t know
Anything because she''s so
She is so scared when you''re not there
When no one''s there please tell me where
To go when I am all alone
When no one''s home, when no one''s home
Please tell me why I am lying here
All alone
Oh mother no

Oh Mother
Please let me go
Oh mom I''m dying now
Oh please, oh please

-she''s gone honey-
-she''s not coming back-

If you lied then why not lie now
If you hide things, I will find out
I am only but a woman
Who likes to fly at night
If I told you how your life would end
Would you take back all that you said
When the night falls I call your name
When the morning comes I fly away

Oh mother
