EXTREME LIFE, is a play on words. EXTREME: refers to the extreme difficulty of playing 5 concertos in one concert, and LIFE: refers both to the musical life of our protagonist, Horacio Franco, and because of its closeness to the word “liveâ€, it also refers to the process used in recording this album: “live recordingâ€.
The disc includes 5 concertos of great technical and musical difficulty. The recently edited P 312 of Vivaldi was originally a violin concerto with the words “per flautino†crossed out in the manuscript; together with Mr. Franco´s bold and functional adaptations of the Sinfonias from Bach´s Cantatas BWV 29 and 35, and the Saradande from BWV 997 they form a “new†recorder concerto. In addition, this “new†piece is joined by the famous C Major concerto of Georg Philipp Telemann, and 2 celebrated concertos of Vivaldi: P 78, and Op. X no. 3, “Il Gardellinoâ€, with a cadenza modeled on other Vivaldi concertos by Mr. Franco.
