We become who we are through our experiences and from those that touch our lives. There is something to be learned in everything we do be it bad or good and we can only grow and try to become better by being honest with ourselves.
It is through our times of happiness, sadness, laughter and tears we are defined and in the nine songs on her emotional CD, Wanna Fly, Robin DeLorenzo gives insight into her greatest moments of agony and bliss, love and loathing, discovery and acknowledgement. She has opened her soul and shared some of her most intimate life moments, those moments that she knows others experience every day too. Through her gut wrenching lyrics and her powerful vocals, every song is relatable and will tug at your heart strings in some way. Her melodies are solid and memorable and her songs always leaving you wanting more. Her vocal style is powerful and grabbing. With her soulful blues style and slight country undertone, there is no mistaking this dynamic artist.
Through her partnership with Producer Lisa Ratner of East West Music Inc/Fastrax Studios, South Salem, NY, the two were able to add a commercial pop feel that opens up the CD to all ages. There is something for everyone on this album. The magic that was created between Robin and Lisa has proven them to be a song writing team to be reckoned with. There is nothing short of brilliance in all nine tracks.
The CD kicks off with hard hitting I’d Change for You, a blues pop crossover song that talks to the fundamentals of giving everything you have and getting nothing in return and the harsh realization of knowing you would do anything to please someone else only to find they would not do the same for you. Followed by her title track, Wanna Fly will grab you and take hold with its bluesy, soulful, emotional feel. It talks about taking the steps to admit to yourself what is right for your life and putting yourself first. Equally soulful is Soul Fire, which tells the story of a new love that you can’t have. Similarly, Shakey Ground is a very catchy tune with a powerful story about the love of your life walking away and trying to pull yourself together and work on the healing process.
Love is powerful, it can heal and hurt. Robin explores both areas in her songs. In her power ballad MIddle of the Day, she cries about loss and trying to cope and work her way through it. This song will bring tears to your eyes and grab the bottom of your heart. In the same vein, Not for All the Money is also a killer power ballad that talks about how important it is to understand who you are and to listen to that inner voice we all have. It sends the message that life is too short and every choice we make is as important as the next. Being true to yourself is the key to ultimate happiness in life.
A few lighthearted, fun songs that will bring a smile to your face every time are Screw U, Sunshine and Take a Piece of Me. They are upbeat, care-free songs that will keep your feet tapping and heart happy!
All in all, Wanna Fly is a collection of songs that you will be able to relate to, sing along with and that you will remember.
