The album started with a historical character, Dr. Bendo. Bendo was the pseudonym of John Wilmot 2nd Earl of Rochester in late 1600''s. Wilmot was cast out of the courts for his obscene poetry and criticism of king Charles. While in hiding he went under the persona of Dr. Bendo attempting to cure barrenness in women. The freak show went on for months putting London''s underground in a frenzy. The use of Dr. Bendo sets the tone for the album but doesn''t necessarily explain much beyond that. Many characters and points of view are introduced throughout. They are seen as reinterpretations of the same character in different time periods at different moments in their life. A full spectrum of humanity is realized including debauchery, platonic love for friends and siblings, lust, terminal illness, suicide drug abuse, partying, native american tragedy, and the holocaust.
