Details:
Sharon breaks the mold of what you typically think of as country or bluegrass music. “I never
thought my music could be described as one specific genre. I always do what I think is right for
the song, and my tastes are varied.” And oh, what a musical ride!
The songs range from Harley Allen’s “High Sierra” to the sweet, familiar “Shenandoah” while
Johnny Paycheck’s “Back Where We Parted” are offered alongside hard-driving “Big Country.” “I
Wish it Had Been a Dream” is a rarely performed Louvin Brothers gem, while “One for You, One
for Me” was a favorite of Sharon’s from Justin Tubb. “Stranded” was penned by Sharon, and it
boasts an arrangement that truly marks Sharon’s music as original. But it doesn’t stop there.
Melody and tone are two words that Sharon uses to describe what she feels
draws her to a song. “I guess I’m old school,” Sharon confesses, “I have long
admired SINGERS, by that I mean those with control, emotion, depth of soul.
How many people remember Patti Page’s Tennessee Waltz? Patsy Cline,
Tammy Wynette? Need I say more?” And the critics answer with accolades.
The tradition that began in the 50’s and 60’s are in good hands with singers
like Sharon. Bluegrass Now magazine said this about her: “her original
singing style is powerful and emotional, her writing style is equally original,
combining modern elements within a traditional framework. “
What began in the foothills of the Santa Monica mountains, in Topanga
Canyon some nearly 20 years ago now has come full circle to her home in Nashville,
Tennessee. Her deep love of rock, jazz and roots country are shadowed in her honest,
folksy style. “My musical integrity is all that I have, and what matters most to me.”
Sharon confesses. See if you don’t agree that Sharon is all you thought she’s cracked up
to be. And lots more.
