Just imagine a mythical jam session where Ry Cooder meets David Grisman, meets Carlos Santana, meets James Brown, and you are beginning to hear the possibilites of the sound of Syncrosystem. Taking their name from the Album "Synchrosystem" by the legendary African performer King Sunny Ade, Syncrosystem blends the rhythyms and sounds of new and old from all over the globe with some unique instrumentation, resulting in a truly original international sound. By fusing rhythms and melodies from Brazil, Cuba, Martinique, and from African and Afro-beat traditions, with modern funk, hip hop, and drum''n''bass fresh from the streets of San Francisco, maestros Peter Gross on guitars, Christian Runge on lap steel and Mandolin, Julian Gerstin on percussion, the Reverend Chris Horgan on drums, and bass ninja Yoshi Sako on electric bass, have served up a spicy dish of international musical gumbo, that has shown itself to be digestible by people of many different ages and cultures.
The musicians that make up Syncrosystem are as disparate as thier influences. Thier ages span from 24 to 51, and influences are as diverse as from the traditional music of Martinique to Phish, and from Gilberto Gil to hardcore electronica and drum''n''bass.
The members have jammed or shared stages with: Micahel Franti and Spearhead, members of Albino, Smashmouth, Hamsa Lila, and Counting Crows, Alphabet Soup, the Alice DiMicele Band, the Om Trio, Kotoja, Zulu Spear, Avi Bortnick (of the John Scofield Band), Jesse Malloy (of Carlos Washington''s Giant People), Chicken Hersh (Pharoah Sanders), Ulali, and David Grisman.
Syncrosystem was active in the west coast world music scene from 2002-2006 and is currently in a dormant mode.
