Dement Ormond

It all began for Dement at the age of five. At an early age there has always been a great passion for music. The children from the neighborhood would be outside playing, somehow Dement had urges to go in the house and listen to music, he would play a song over and over until he listen to every instrument, and the lead and background vocal. Out of all the musical instruments played in popular music, it was the guitar that held his attention. Dement started play songs out of the song book which inspired him to become a song writer. Ten years old, too young to compose and arrange the instruments for the songs he had written, Dement’s mother sent his music to a publisher in Nashville to have the music arranged to his lyrics. In high school Dement went in a different direction, he played drums in the marching band, which gave him a good feel for rhythm and percussion. After high school he went on to play with his cousins who played guitar and drums in an R&B band and Dement was the bassist. Bass became Dement’s primary instrument; he took pride in his bass playing and studied with one of the bassist from the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, and took private theory lessons. Studying theory and the ability to read music enabled Dement to play all styles of music in different bands. After going into the recording studio for the first time, experiencing the play back was fascinating. Dement knew that recording was going to be a major part of his career, every time he went to a new city he always looked for the recording studios to get work and stay abreast with the latest technology. Dement was a constant student he wanted to know how everything worked, obsessed over the recording aspects of the music business, he started to work more as a studio musician rather than playing live. Living in Buffalo, N.Y. Dement would commute between Buffalo, New York City and Toronto, Ontario to do recording sessions. Dement continued to write lyrics, arrange horns and other instruments and produce songs, to be able to compete with the talented artist in the music industry. One night while playing in a night club in Canada, there were two musicians who really enjoyed Dements performance and fancy bass work, gave him some state of the art recording equipment to bring to Buffalo to write and produce some songs for them, which was the first step in his career of becoming a recording engineer. After discovering the technological advantages of having the equipment at home, Dement was able to make the music sound exactly the way he wanted without worrying about studio cost. Dement went on to obtain a Bachelors of Science degree in audio Engineering and Music Production. Working for a sound reinforcement company in Buffalo, he engineered shows for artist such as 50 Cents, Style P, Lloyd, Bone Crusher, Angela Bold field just to name a few. Dement is currently teaching engineering, Protools, Reason, and other software programs and have bass and guitar students; he is also the bassist for a country and rock band, Larry Salter’s Big Band, and he also was the bassist for the Billy Holiday play. Dement is also a single proprietor of Clearwater Production Co. The company focus on tracking, mixing and mastering music which will be ready for retail outlet.
