If you don’t know what “Ji” means, this CD probably won’t be of any value to you. The “Ji” is the most important part in any taiko piece, because it’s the fundamental rhythm that provides the foundation for all the other parts. It’s like the clave in Latin music, the 8-beat in Rock, and the ride shuffle in Jazz.
This CD is designed to help intermediate and advanced taiko drummers build technique to lay down a solid “Ji.” You can play along with the tracks as they increase in tempo, or you can practice soloing on top of them. Both are great ways to train your ears and hands to improve not only your own sound, but the sound of your entire taiko group.
4 Practice Pieces designed to help build fundamental technique on Chudaiko, Shimedaiko,
Odaiko, and Bon Odori styles of drumming
5 Practice Patterns for building technique that can easily be applied to a wide range of taiko
pieces
3 Play-Along rhythms to practice the “Ji” or create solos
All 12 tracks are played at 3 different tempos, so there are a total 36 tracks. Play them at home when you’re practicing on a drum pad, or bring the CD to the studio on your iPod and practice with the members of your group.
