Details:
Tim Davies is not your average composer and drummer. While he is classically trained in composition and percussion, the 33 year old Australian is just as at home writing for a big band, playing drums in a rock band or conducting a symphony orchestra. Imagine Oliver Nelson gets drunk with John Bonham listening to Prokofiev. While claims like this are made by many people, Davies backs it up with his ever building list of credits.
Davies moved to Los Angeles with the assistance of several grants in the fall of 1998 to study film scoring at the University of Southern California. While at USC he sought out composer/arranger/band leader John Clayton and asked for an arranging lesson. Since then Davies has worked for Clayton orchestrating, transcribing and arranging for various projects. Highlights include three seasons of Jazz at the Hollywood Bowl and albums for Natalie Cole, Diana Krall and Michael Buble.
He currently lives in Los Angeles where he is a freelance arranger and orchestrator writing for film, TV, albums and live concerts. Recent arranging gigs include American Idol, the LA Philharmonic and the theme for the new James Bond Video game. Mid 05 saw Davies orchestrate and conduct the score for the Sony video game Socom 3 and he completed the score to “Murder on the Yellow Brick Road”, his first feature as a composer. A recent highlight was orchestrating and conducting the score to When a Stranger Calls which was No1 at the US box office. He is currently the orchestrator and conductor for the ABC TV series “Invasion”.
While that explains half his life, the other half is spent writing and performing with the Tim Davies Big Band. Having formed his first band just before moving to the States, it did not take him long to assemble an LA band. The bands’ monthly gig at Club Tropical is the only regular big band gig in LA that features original music. The band has recorded several albums and can be heard on many film and TV soundtracks. Davies has traveled all over the world as a guest with many big bands and presented lectures on his music and arranging.
Davies endorses Pearl Drums, Sabian Cymbals and Finale Notation Software.
