This project is what I would consider the first true “rock album” in my catalog. In prior projects, rock music served as the springboard to other fantastic and exotic places, and I was not overly concerned with reaching a mass audience or garnering any commercial appeal. This project is also not overly concerned with such things, endeavoring instead to explore commercial forms as an exercise in song craft. The incidents depicted and attitudes expressed in the lyrics are partly based on my own life and partly fabricated for dramatic effect.
