Before “Urban Cowboy”, there was Rimrock. In the late 1970’s in Lafayette,Louisiana, Rimrock was playing their own distinct brand of country music to huge crowds at local clubs like the Corner Bar and Gentry’s. In 1980, the Rimrock Saloon, named after the band, opened its doors to their enthusiastic fans.
Rimrock’s members are seasoned musicians with long resumes. Mark MacDiarmid, Dave McBane (Howdy Walls), Mike Schwartz (Righty Swartz), Robbie Bush (https://www.tradebit.comde) and Dave Bias (Jake Steel)made up the original band.
The band was founded in 1978 by Mark MacDiarmid and Mike Schwartz, guitarists and longtime friends who had played music together during high school and college. Their influences and repertoire from their early projects included folk, surfer, British invasion, rock & roll and much more.
Rimrock, like many bands, evolved through several musician changes. When Robbie Bush (on drums) and Dave McBane (on bass) joined the group in 1979, the end result gave the group the sound they were looking for. Robbie and Dave had worked together for years in a number of different bands, playing locally and touring on the road. Their backgrounds included rock, rhythm & blues, soul, show bands and jazz.
All of these influences came together in Rimrock, which could best be described as a new style of country rock. Dave Bias joined the group soon after on pedal steel guitar to complete the transformation of the band.
Known better by their stage names, Mark (Spike Kikk), Mike (Righty), Dave McBane (Howdy Walls), Robbie Bush (Buffalo Bob Pride) and Dave Bias (Jake Steel), the band created a persona and on-stage act that comprised fun, high energy and creativity with their musical performance.
Rimrock released an album of original songs in 1981 and enjoyed increasing popularity throughout Louisiana and Texas. Now, back together, the material proves good harmony, good melodies, good lyrics and good rhythms are timeless and the magic can be found in each track!
