Easy Street features the duo of vibraphonist Carl Rigoli and pianist John Rodby. All compositions and arrangements on the recording are by Rigoli: "Easy Street," "Ryan''s Song," "Lepore Stomp," "Ballad for Karen," "Mr. Rigley and Mr. Rodney," "Presto Pasta," "Three Step Bossa," "Angela," "Ditmars Blvd," and "Is that So."
The title of the disc is very appropriate to the feeling one gets when listening to this jazz duo; "you''re on easy street." The beautiful, sonorous quality of Rigoli''s vibraphone playing is balanced perfectly with the piano stylings of Rodby. Both performers are equally adept at soloing, completing the package and making for an outstanding recording."

"In the last 20 years there has emerged a relatively small number of influential Jazz musicians, this despite the overall excellence displayed by those playing Jazz. Among vibraphonists during these years there have been five who have been of utmost importance: Cal Tjader, Milt Jackson, Lionel Hampton, Terry Gibbs, and Dave Pike. Listing these five does not deny the contributions made by such men as Victor Feldman, Red Norvo and Gary Burton, to name just three. There is now a sixth vibraphonist to add to this list: Carl Rigoli."
"To say that Carl''s work impressed me is an understatement. His playing is electrifying. Cascades of notes, Carl is well equipped technically, flowed into blocks of sounds. Carl not only understands the vibes and how it should be played, but as a teacher has been able to take it beyond its capabilities."
"In EASY STREET, Carl swings along with neat, concise statements and a delightfully feathery touch. RYAN''S SONG, a fine sense of development and rhythmic implementation. LEPORE STOMP, his playing is dancing and jabbing, much like the playing of his drummer in the 80''s. BALLAD FOR KAREN, beautiful, thick-textured voicing for a beautiful lady. MR. RIGLEY AND MR. RODNEY, both Carl and John make an interesting choice of notes and huge tones. PRESTO PASTA, Carl states the melody with deep feeling that is flavored with a touch of blues. THREE STEP BOSSA, is solid; he plays powerfully, and his lines are rich, with good continuity. ANGELA, has a flavor of impressionism with a touch of bossa nova and a feeling of reflection. DITMARS BLVD. Carl comes in to play, and he does so, digging in, in his mettlesome manner, his effervescence seeming to effect John like champagne. IS THAT SO, in which Carl dissects the melody, tears it apart, and builds a snarling, kicking, climbing solo that holds the listener gripped in it''s throes
The best thing about this release is the attitude and conviction toward the music evinced by Carl and John. Originality alone can make an album worth purchasing. So can virtuosity, so can lyricism, so can fervent conviction. When all are present, an album becomes essential!"
