My name is Ryan, and I’m 27 years old. I currently reside in the gorgeous Treasure Valley of Boise, Idaho. I’ve been enjoying the vast beauty and fun opportunities that Idaho offers, such as skiing, hunting, camping and fishing on the astounding Snake River. There’s always something to do over here, and the people are pretty laid back. Here’s a little something so that you might know a bit about me.
I grew up on a drum set, however began playing the guitar in the summer of 1997. I got my 1st guitar from my high school youth pastor as a graduation present when I was 17. After endless hours of practicing, I reached a level in which I could structure songs, using basic chords. I got addicted to music, playing every day/all day, nearly flunking out my freshman year of college. Being that my neighbor across the hall was Paul Wright, I found it convenient to play music around the clock. Paul and I formed an acoustic duo, and later added a full band. Over the next 5 years, I got to share the stage and perform with some of the biggest names in the music industry, while touring/performing throughout the northwest.
In 2003, I moved from my home in Southern Oregon to Idaho, where I began pursuing a career in medicine. I became an EMT-paramedic, and later began working as a medic in Boise. It’s the best job ever, but tends to get a little crazy from time to time. As a paramedic, I have come face to face with death, drugs, murder, rape, suicide, addiction, and horrifying, tragic events. These experiences have given me a tremendous sensitivity for life.
These past few years, I’ve been forced to step away from the stage, and examine my heart. I’ve noticed how slowly over time my spiritual health has dwindled to nearly death. I never learned to be a spiritual leader or a mature Christian, because I always had a strong support base around me. I have been slowly and painfully learning that away from God, there is no life. Outside of his covering, I am susceptible to temptation.
Looking back, I see how my life had turned into a continual pattern of walking away from God, getting into trouble; broken down and exhausted, eventually returning to the Lord, begging for help. I kept trying to fill empty voids in my life with the world. My life was a picture perfect hypocrite, and it broke my heart when others would say, “Geez Ryan, I thought you were a Christian; Wow, you sure have them fooled”. After continual frustration, I began to ask, “God, what are you trying to teach me? I’m not learning my lesson!” The answer was simple “TOTALLY DEPEND ON ME”.
In my latest record entitled “dimunstrayshun” I have written songs that talk about being completely devoted to God; personal struggles, and stories from my life. The title of the record comes from the actual word “demonstration” which is defined as “the act of making evident by practical application”. I want to demonstrate Gods love, with simple day-to-day application of his word, and show others the amazing joy and freedom found in Jesus Christ. I’m still a work in progress, living everyday by grace!!!
In this world that’s falling apart before our eyes, it’s easy to get consumed in lax and blind routines. We are all in need of grace, and hopefully this record will be a positive message that speaks peace to those who are hurting, burdened and lost. Thanks for checking out my music. Remember, remain in him, and he’ll remain in you. God bless!!!
In Christ,
Ryan Stevenson
