John D. Norten Album Notes
In 1995 the kind of music I had been a fan of and had been writing for years finally caught up with the mainstream. It was a very exciting time for Blue Eyed Christ. I was feeling particularly creative, constantly crafting and recording new material. I assembled a great live band and we were generating a big buzz by playing live shows and label showcases around Chicago. We also received support from Q101, Chicago’s largest Modern Rock radio station, and legendary recording studio Chicago Trax.
Word had spread in the industry and I was traveling to New York and Los Angeles meeting with major record labels. In the summer of 1996 I relocated to Los Angeles on the heels of a major label deal that, like so many bands before me, fell through at the last minute.
The finished master of Crash has been collecting dust in my vault until now. We burned some CDR copies along the way for some fans, but it’s never been officially released. In 2010 I began the process of preserving all my music digitally. I transferred about 28 master DAT tapes, comprising over 30 hours of various songs and projects over the years. I was surprisingly very proud of the Crash era material and still believe it holds up. A lot of Blood, Sweat, and Tears went into the making of that album and I look back at that time very fondly.
I’ve gone back to the original master tapes, chosen the best copies and mixes, and remastered the entire album. I’ve also remastered and included three never released tracks that I feel represent the best of the unreleased Crash era material
