In this exciting collection of acoustic rock tunes DiDonato draws from all the influences of his past. The concept Frozen In Time reflects the over all attitude, sound, songs and even instruments chosen. Born in 1968, the original material draws from songs DiDonato wrote at various times in his life. From his childhood - "Race track had its genesis when I wrote the chorus at age seven, based on a family member''s gambling… I wrote Stephanie when I was 12, the first chords I had learned, its about unrequited love from junior high... Oh Boy… Sergio Valenti jeans… Good Night Stephanie Dipietro where ever you are".
Others were penned more recently including the spark for the album Morning After where the composer reflects on some of his shortcomings that lead him down a dark road and back.
“I returned a little taller…a bit more of me….. silent prayer to the sunshine… for remembering me”
All the material was very purposefully performed acoustically with the most fundamental acoustic rock timbres’. DiDonato accompanies his vocals on Acoustic 6 and 12 string guitars, harmonica, melodica, soprano, alto and tenor recorders, tambourine, maraca’s and bass drum.
This is a fun mini retrospective of the songwriter and his tribute to the acoustic rock that soothed his soul growing up and as Race Track reminds him and us “Thank God for Rock and Roll”.
- "After I wrote couple of songs recently I realized how much I loved and was saved by Rock & Roll all my life… I reworked a few songs I wrote as a kid and included them for the same reason"
If you are familiar with DiDonato’s other CD’s from his Jazz and Pop Fusion band Nova Columbo this is an especially enjoyable and distinct collection.
