The project is a tribute to two great bluegrass players, the first,Porter Church a legend from the early days who played with Bill Monroe and the Stoneman family. His son Kevin who did a long stint with the Country Gentlemen, has put together some of the songs his father loved and many they played together. Kevin plays them in the style of his father with a flair of modern technique. Kevin and Porter both have influenced many of today''s banjo players.
The project is also dedicated to Tom Pearson a great fiddle player from the Washington, D.C. area. His son Terry, the bassist on this project, has picked a few songs he loved playing with his father. Two of the best fiddle players in the bluegrass field do Tom justice, Ray Legere and Justen Haynes who is now playing with 3rd Tyme Out. When you look at the line up on the CD you will see some of the foremost players in the music today. Wyatt Rice does a great lead on "Round it up," a Kevin Church original. This is one song you will hear bluegrass musicians trying to learn in festival parking lots.
Alex Sens a great resophonic player adds life and a style only a few can emulate. Jimmy Gaudreau, the master mandolin player adds his interpetation to a few songs.
Listen as the great tenor Norman Wright sings his part on the remake of Lee Berry Rye from his days with the Bluegrass Cardinals.
Last but not least Jason Owen the Lead Singer for the Travelers for several years, uses that Carolina voice on several cuts. He sang and arrainged the title cut, "Living for a Memory," a song written by Terry Pearson.
All of the musicians on this project are known to bluegrass fans everywhere. This is a must CD to add to your collection.
