Jackson Sundown plays intelligent, well-crafted songs with soaring harmonies, fiery guitars and spirited, solid rhythms. The band consists of guitarists Kevin Fallon, Jess Gaedtke, Kyle Kovalik, bassist Kevin Almeida and drummer Eric Manegold. Combining thoughtful lyrics and memorable melodies with solid up-tempo arrangements, Jackson Sundown’s all-original material showcases catchy hooks, dueling guitars, multi-layered rhythms and lush vocals. They have been described as acoustic/electric rock, country rock, folk rock and just plain ROCK! Regardless, these five veteran musicians have developed a sound that is both hauntingly familiar and yet distinctly their own.
The band members came from diverse backgrounds to ultimately form Jackson Sundown. Kevin Fallon, a songwriter from Missouri, lived a mountain man lifestyle in Wyoming and spent time working as a cowboy and guide. Kyle Kovalik started out a young river guide on the Grand Canyon, his guitar strapped to his raft and later became an expert kayaker. Kevin Almeida, a highly respected luthier, built and inlayed beautiful guitars in California and later assembled computers. Jess Gaedtke, from a family of musicians and singers, moved from Wisconsin to Nashville and eventually to Seattle following his musical dreams. After a standout career in college football at the University of Montana, Eric Manegold later toured the U.S and Europe as a successful musician. Both Kovalik and Almeida trained at the Guitar and Bass Institute of Technology. Fallon performed in coffee shops and clubs in the San Francisco area of the 1970s and recorded songs at the famous Record Plant Studios. Gaedtke gained notoriety as a songwriter and guitar player in the highly competitive Nashville scene. Manegold was a much in demand drummer in Las Vegas and toured extensively. Eventually all of them ended up in the Seattle area of Western Washington.
All through our colorful lives, we each honed and refined our musical skills, assimilating all the diverse styles and genres of music that we were exposed to. When Kovalik, who had played before with Fallon and Manegold, met Almeida at a benefit, he knew it would be a natural fit. They all hit it off from the first chord and knew there was something there to dig into. Gaedtke had just released his solo CD and his songwriting and guitar playing skills along with his lush vocals seemed the perfect compliment and rounded out the band. The individual singing, playing and songwriting styles and diverse musical backgrounds came together with a beautiful variance.
