The music of Amie and the Alien is inspired by the likes of Frank Zappa and Stereolab with a touch of Serge Gainsburg, and a pinch of Björk. Starting in 2000, Amie Amis and Rick Thompson began their musical collaboration by composing humorous ditties. Over time these ditties have evolved into musical extravaganzas all while retaining their original humorous spirit. The shows are an eclectic mixture of styles, much like your favorite iPod playlist. Amie and the Alien’s fun-loving, upbeat music is contagious as the catchy melodies are sure to get stuck in your head for days at a time.
The band has performed at CBGB’s, The Knitting Factory, Pianos, The Slipper Room, Spike Hill, Sugar Bar, Drom, Lit Lounge, Connolly’s Klub 45, and The National Underground just to name a few.
Amie has also lent her talents to Jay Z’s Radio City performance in 2006, was part of Kanye West’s touring band in 2007, performs regularly in Broadway pit orchestras for Wicked, and Phantom Of The Opera, and has also played with Josh Groban. With The Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Amie performed with James Galway, Diana Krall, Shirley Horn, Diane Reeves, and Christian McBride at the Hollywood Bowl. In addition, Amie can be seen playing in the orchestra in the movie August Rush. In 2002 Amie toured Beijing, China with the Miami Chamber Orchestra.
Rick Thompson has toured the country with legendary performer Nina Storey. He has fronted a Primus tribute band, and has played at many prestigious venues and festivals including Red Rocks Amphitheater, Blues by the Bay Festival, and Santa Cruz Blues Festival just to name a few.
Reviews: “The show was outstanding... I enjoyed the energy and diversity of the band''s music.” - Fredo, Loungerati
“…Specializes in a not-easily-categorizable blend of lounge-pop and jazz, with occasional blasts of Pixies-ish power pop thrown in for good measure. Think a slinky, live Stereolab fronted by a stylishly modern Betty Boop.” - Ted Alvarez,Vail Daily
"She is the cutest thing and then she picks up her big-ass French horn and rocks out." - Lara Ewen, Unstrung Music
