Although their story isn’t very remarkable or noteworthy, what’s to come is something to take note of. Elle and the Fonts started as a side project of Elle Sawa in 2005. After the release of her first two EPs in 2008, Elle began the search for Fonts. In 2009, Adam LeRoy of Murder Mystery joined the band as a drummer. Soon after, they started looking for a third member to round out their new sound, and they didn’t need to look very far: Adam’s brother-in-law, Paul Kokeny, joined as the band’s keyboard player. In the spring of 2010, Elle and the Fonts started recording what they hoped to be an EP in Adam’s basement. Soon they found out that Adam’s wife, Miranda, was going to have a baby. It only seemed fitting to name the album after the soon-to-be newest addition to the Font family, Harrison Fox. Elle’s reignited obsession with Buffy the Vampire Slayer (thanks, LOGO) inspired a slurry of songs which she released under the name 3773, which caused Adam to check out some episodes and pen his own Buffy-inspired songs. Combining Paul’s pop-punk melodies with Adam’s 60s/70s rock sensibilities, wrapped up in the indie folk-ness of Elle, the sound of the band morphed into something… Alternative. Twelve new and three older re-worked songs later, Elle and the Fonts had created their own offering to the world, H. Fox.
