MP3 John Stephens - Ellipsis
Short-attention span/ADHD compliant songs, most lasting 30-60 seconds. A mix of instrumentals, low and droll vocals, beats and guitar. A bit of an aquired taste. Interludes flavored by DC, Boston, and Brooklyn''s indie scenes.

This album was written between 2007 and 2010. Some of these songs were written for a challenge to write and record ten songs in the month of February, which I did in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Thus a lot of these songs are quickly written and the performances are recorded in one-take in many cases, though I usually layer a few tracks. I''ve been playing music since the 5th grade, so I am at the point where I can improvise quickly and make mistakes sound good, or at least intentional. For a while I played bass in a band called the Vehicle Birth, based out of Boston and Cambridge, MA in the mid 90s. I like the rougher less polished sound of one-take songs and demo recordings--partly because you get an unedited performance and you don''t over polish all the good stuff out. I don’t mind a few rough edges around the performances, and I actually enjoy a few imperfections. I always am reminded of the process of rug weaving, where I have heard that the design of the some rugs often intentionally includes mistakes in the pattern, so as to not make anything too perfect so as to upset the preferred deity of the rug''s weaver. Anyway, this is a rough and quirky little album that includes a lot of instruments and song types. The first half is a bit faster and louder than the second half.
