Gerard James was raised in the farming community of Lincoln County, ON, Canada. He is second of four children. His elder brother, Keith, is currently serving in the Canadian Armed Forces. Stationed in Victoria, BC, Keith still finds the time to sharpen his chops on the drum kit. Assisting Gerard on his debut album, Keith gives a solid groove to his brother''s tracks. Also, lending a hand, sister Mary-Jo Mustoe, brings her vocal harmonies to blend in a unique sound.
Since his early years, Gerard has been exploring the many facets of music. Attributed to his music and voice lessons, Gerard had entered and won several talent competitions. As a youth, he had gained recognition in Southern Ontario as a talented vocalist. Gerard continued expressing his love for music while involved with several local music groups. Two bands received Radio Airplay.
Gerard attended Niagara College, where he studied for a diploma in both Electronics and Theatre Arts. It was there that he met the love of his life, Sararlyn Williams. After graduation, Gerard was employed as a Theatre Technician, specializing in Audio Production. Presently self-employed as an independent contractor, Gerard is making ends meet.
With the level of his writing increasing, Gerard has found it difficult to ignore the talent he has been given. "The last three years have been dedicated to creating songs that would stand the test of time", Gerard stated. "I want to create songs that appeal to a wide audience, but they have to appeal to me first. I''m a chronic perfectionist, and my worst critic. The most thrilling aspect of my songwriting is the development of the song. I find myself following my muse to places of great emotional, and spiritual significance."
Songwriting may be therapy for Gerard, but we''re thankful for the outcome. With his debut solo album underway, Gerard has already sparked interest in the mainstream Country Music industry. As a member of SOCAN, CCMA, and NSAI, this talented Canadian artist is connected to the heart of the songwriting community. With his sites on Nashville, Gerard is in pursuit of an International Distribution deal.
