Details:
Greensky Bluegrass (GSBG) is taking Michigan’s blend of acoustic roots music on the road. Performing at festivals, theaters, bars, and listening rooms all over the US, their rare traditional sound has quickly spread to a national audience. Over five years of live performance and the 2004 release of Less Than Supper have established GSBG as one of the hardest working independent quartets in the acoustic music community.
In July of 2006 the band released their sophomore studio effort, Tuesday Letter, produced by Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth. The album is currently available on the band''s website,https://www.tradebit.com, https://www.tradebit.com and through iTunes.
A celebrated American tradition and enthusiasm for music inspires the joyful sound of Greensky Bluegrass. Their music is influenced by the traditional styles of Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs while incorporating themes from the roots of Jazz and Reggae. The result is an acoustic quartet that continues to entertain audiences with modern compositions and witty commentary. The band is comfortable playing behind one microphone, with amplifiers, or any combination thereof. They are versatile performers for any stage and the music is appropriate for a wide range of listeners and many environments.
Having been featured at this year’s Smilefest XII, Greensky then traveled west to Colorado for a 3 week Mountain Tour where they proceeded to take the Telluride competition by storm as a last minute addition, winning First Place in this prestigious contest (past winners include Nickel Creek and Dixie Chicks)!
Recently GSBG has performed with Railroad Earth, Larry Keel & Natural Bridge, Steppin In It, Hot Buttered Rum String Band and many more. The band has shared bills with influential musicians including Ralph Stanley, Rhonda Vincent and the Rage, Mountain Heart, The Mammals, Open Road, Darrell Scott, and King Wilkie. Their compositions offer a unique perspective on tradition and insight into their own experiences. Driving instrumentals and affecting lyrics contribute a fresh sound to an eclectic acoustic genre.
The band is currently on an extended tour of the Eastern US, in support of the new release.
