Details:
The roots of Califia lie deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia and in San Francisco, California. Jason Konik, formerly a Chicago-scene bassist and poet, moved to Charlottesville, VA in 2005. There in the Blue Ridge, he learned to adapt his poetic skills to folk music. After months of busking in Europe, Jason returned to Virginia and, armed with an arsenal of songs, trekked across North America in 2009 to take up residence in San Francisco. There he met Anthony Spizuoco, a blues player from Boston. Together with San Francisco native and reggae drummer Cameron Chernoff, Califia was born in late 2009. New York native Tony Lubrano joined shortly thereafter on the bass. Mixing lyrics at times introspective and at times a call to action with reggae grooves and slick rock and roll, Califia is creating a unique, West Coast sound and won''t stop until everyone has heard it for themselves.
