David''s father and uncles were musicians, and he listened to the sound of their music, playing the banjo, guitar, lap steel before he could walk. He was captivated by all the early songs, but the most profound influence on his life was Hank Williams, Sr.
Because of Hank, his life has followed an unbelievable path. David has been blessed to meet people from all over the world that share his enthusiasm for Hank. He learned to play rhythm guitar early and he started performing when he was only 8 years old. A few years ago, after spending 10 years in bluegrass, He was performing at an RV rally in central Indiana. He had been asked to perform some Hank Williams songs. He met Terri Lisa, also a very talented country artist, who became David''s wife and partner. They recorded an album in Nashville with several songs David had written. Randy and Karen Shilling love country music, and particularly, Hank Williams. They asked if David had ever thought of doing a Hank Williams tribute album. "You sound more like Hank, than anyone we''ve ever heard." "Images of a Country Drifter"a historical tribute to Hank, was created. David was contacted by CMT, and invited to perform at the 50th Anniversary Memorial for Hank Williams in Montgomery, AL. There were many Hank Williams fans, as well as Mary Wallace, director of the fan club , and officials from both museums were present. Also present were Hank''s sister, Leila, Jack Green, Stonewall Jackson, as well as other local celebrities. It was here that he met legendary steel guitarist, Don Helms, who is credited with the ''sound '' of Hank Williams. This was Don Helms'' first time at the Memorial, and he agreed to play with David, using the same steel guitar that he used when playing with Hank. They received several standing ovations and many told David afterwards that it was the best tribute show they had ever seen. Mary Wallace told us, "I''ve heard them all and David is the best!" To David''s amazement, Don agreed, and they developed a strong friendship. The possibility of doing an album was discussed.
