Details:
Anthony VanPelt of Virginia began playing the violin at age four. He performs for audiences throughout the United States and abroad, having received his BA in violin performance and MM in music composition. He performs and teaches various styles of music, including classical and bluegrass. His music is performed internationally, with three orchestra recordings by the National Opera Orchestra of Beijing, China.
The beautiful Shenandoah Valley is where he calls home. When Anthony played a classical performance one afternoon and then played a bluegrass gig that night, he thought, "It''s interesting to go from one style of music to a completely different style--all in one day! What if the two were mixed? Wouldn''t that be wild." Classical is notated music. Bluegrass is improvised music. Each genre has a different yet equal roll in producing this fusion sound. The Classical side of Anthony is "music you can tell a story with". Listen to "Rockingham Fair", which depicts a day at the local Rockingham County Fairgrounds during fair week each August. Or hear "The Studio", inspired by the countryside music studio in Port Republic, Virginia where Anthony teaches his violin and fiddle students. Then listen to the hauntingly beautiful "The Capture" which portrays a game of capture the flag in the woods at night. The bluegrass side of Anthony is "music you can let loose with". Listen to hard driving bluegrass of "Orange Blossom Special" and "Washington County", then sit back and enjoy the soothing sounds of a sunset in "Ashokan Farewell".
Now hear the talented musicians of both styles come together to produce this new trademark sound "Blue-Classi-Grass-Cal". Listen to a pure jam session in "Remington Ride", hear the two styles mix and blend in Anthony''s original "G", and take in all the beauty of Anthony''s arrangement for string quartet and bluegrass band in "Shenandoah". If you long for the Shenandoah Valley, this CD is for you.
