Martinique has been a musician and singer all her life. At the age of 5 she was composing her own harmonies. Three years later she won her first singing competition. She took up the piano at the age of 6 and went on to study piano formally for the next 12 years. Martinique then began 7 years of intensive vocal training, during which she was fortunate enough to study with some of the greatest singing teachers in the Pacific Northwest.
When she was just 9 years old, Martinique wrote her first song. By the age of 16, she had caught the writing "bug" and could be found scribbling down song ideas every spare moment. She realized then that her future would be music.
Following her high school graduation, she began her professional career playing in clubs, bars and piano lounges as a solo artist as well as the featured vocalist in various show bands. When she first started out, Martinique had to lie about her age (as she was under-age). By her early 20''s, Martinique was a sought after pianist/vocalist. She was also hired as a vocalist for many recording projects.
In addition to performing full-time, Martinique managed to find the time to supplement her musical knowledge with a variety of music courses, including jazz improvisation. She also began recording demos of her original work. One of these demos resulted in her winning a songwriting contest which led to a co-writing gig with Peter McCann, a very successful staff songwriter with EMI. The resulting song, "One Hell at a Time", was later published by EMI.
Martinique''s hard work eventually paid off. She went to Toronto to work with producer Mathew Gerrard. Martinique recorded her CD "Tangled Web of Cool" and later received a grant from Canada''s Much Music video station to film a video for her song "Tangled Web of Cool".
Martinique is receiving generous airplay across Canada for her first single "You Had No Right" and is currently receiving extensive airplay for her second single "Tangled Web Of Cool" around the world, especially in France, Australia, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. A new television series filmed in the United States, called "Higher Ground", is currently using Martinique''s music in one of their episodes. Martinique''s music continues to build in popularity as more and more radio stations around the world (at the request of their listeners) add her to their rotation.
