"The New Soul Music"-UR Chicago
Great Music is derived from great heartache, some of the best songs are written by those lovelorn loser who wallow in self pitty and guilt. No argument here. That''s topically typical. What''s not ofter heard is the voice of the person who is not on the recieving end, the mixed up instigator of the heartbreak. On on their new EP, "Ethica", Chicago based Unique Chique explore the darker side of love, fidelity and resentment. Singer/guitarist, Joe Starita, stabs at the heart with the subtilty of a cut-rate butcher when he laments, "I talk to you like I don''t want to. If we ever speak again/I know how to hurt you," on the song "2 Steps." Though no designed as a concept album, the 7 tracks of "Ethica" piece together the story of a relationship gone awry and the mistaken avoidance of the proper ethica of a brutal break-up.
Musically, "Ethica" find the band expanding on their complex mix of Jazz, Indie Rock and Brit Rock to reach new heights of song structure and musicality. Recorded by guitarist, Mike Sanfilipp, "Ethica" is the next logical step for a band always pushing to the boundries of creativity.
Unique Chique''s pervious CD, "It Never Fails Forever" (Alarm Clock Records, showcased their ability to remain subtle and melodic, while delivering chaotic rhythms and hypnotic arpeggios. Over the past two years the band has graced the stages of many great Chicago venues: Empty Bottle, Subterranean, Double Door, Bottom Lounge, Beat Kitchen, Fireside Bowl and Metro, as well as, regional touring and an appearance at the 2005 CMJ Music Marathon in New York. They have also appeared on local Chicago radio programs such as WLUW''s Radio One and WHPK''s Pure Hype. Along the way Unique Chique has gained the respect and admiration of fellow musicians such as Rainer Maria, Colossal and Bob Nanna.
"Think Jeff Buckley singing for the Sea And Cake. Yeah, it''s that good!" -Bob Nanna (Braid, Hey Mercedes, City On Film).

I find myself really liking Unique Chique. Their mellow, jazzy, intelligent songs have a kind of turn of the century indie/emo sound to https://www.tradebit.com
