This CD features different types of Samba styles.
There are nine original compositions that will include the following styles of Samba:
Bossa Nova, Samba de Avenida or Parade Samba, Samba Funk, Jongo, Samba Cancao, Partido Alto, Samba in ¾, Samba in 5/4, Samba in 7/8, Samba de Roda and Samba de Batucada among others.
MR. Henrique De Almeida holds a Masters Degree in Music Performance from The University of Southern Mississippi. He is a graduate of The Berklee College of Music in Jazz Composition.
He has performed, toured and or recorded with: Nat Adderley, Nelson Rangel, Jeff Narell, Ira Sullivan, Tiger Okoshy, Victor Mendonza, Danilo Perez, Phil Wilson, Baron Brown, Matt Garrison, Kim Stone, Steve Hunt, Dave Valentin, Bill Summers, Hilton Ruiz, Betty Carter, Willie Williams, Nando Lauria, Alceu Valenca, Gilberto Gill, Raul De Souza, Luiz Gonzaga, Hermeto Paschoal, Greg Hopkins, Bill Cosby, Brian Lynch, Ronnie Matthews, David Williams, Luciana Souza, Katy Webster, and Oscar Kartaia among others.
His career includes performances, touring, TV appearances and recording through Europe, South America, North America and Central America, to include:
New York City Carnegie Hall, The Paris Olympia, The New York City Lincoln Center. The Kool Jazz Festival, The St. Louis Blues & Jazz Festival, The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, The Montreaux Jazz Festival, The Breckenridge Jazz Festival, The Aspen Jazz Festival, The Boston Globe Jazz Festival and The Hattiesburg Jazz Festival.
He is the leader of his own group, “Henrique De Almeida & The Brazilian Jazz Project”.
The group plays a mixture of Brazilian music and Jazz. The band has a new record to be out in the Spring 2006. Mr. De Almeida is also the co-leader of the Colorado based, modern Jazz band, “Cornerstone”, with bassist Kim Stone (Spyro Gyra/The Rippingtons), and the Jazz Fusion group “Deux” with Jazz bassist virtuoso Kirwan Brown.
