"She walks into the lounge room and climbs on the stage. She grabs the mike, while the band starts to play. Some may not like it, but others do and after singing a song or two she leaves again. She just realised there''s no deeper meaning to her life and it''s alright." Wonderbras & Petticoats, 2005
Two weeks after having written these lyrics, Merel Hutten for the first time climbed the stage to perform her own songs. She had been writing music for ages, but was determined not to perform with it until it was exactly the way she wanted it. When she finally started playing her music in 2005, it was after her third performance that she got offered a cd-recording.
In only three days seven songs were recorded at the theatre of Amstelveen, the Netherlands. "We had planned to record about three songs," says Merel, "but most of the time, we got exactly what we wanted out of three or four takes. We then had time to record more than I had hoped for."
On the cd, Merel sings and plays the piano and metallophone. "Long enough now" features Maarten Willemsen on guitar and there''s a violin-part on "Somethin''beautiful" by Inger van Vliet.
Merel Hutten is an Amsterdam-based singer/songwriter. She was born in a small town in the south of the Netherlands in 1979. At the age of 5 Merel was determined that she wanted to play the piano. In her teens she also started with singing lessons. She now lives in Amsterdam. Besides performing as a singer/songwriter, she performs as an improv actress, tours the Netherlands and Belgium as an actress in children''s theatre and gives workshops in music and improv-theatre.
