Wilcox Sullivan Wilcox PSYCH/FOLK Goldust ULTRA RARE!
Wilcox, Sullivan, Wilcox 1973 LP "An Album of Original Music" on Goldust
Records Cat# LPS-163 STEREO
An album of original music by Michael Sullivan, Judy Wilcox, and Dennis Wilcox
Folky psychedelic rock with lush male-female harmonies. Bright and brilliant finely
textured acoustic guitar work throughout. Rocks at times, goes into hillbilly country
territory at others, presents as honest folk, and it''s acid influence is pervasive yet
subtle.
Detailed album reviews below.
Very rare and near-impossible to find private pressing from this New Mexico hippie
group.
Lauded in the Acid Archives:
"An Album Of Original Music" 1973 (Golddust)
Hippie folkpsych/singer songwriter with Eastern moves, housed in tremendous acid
cover.

"interesting record, for a few reasons. total guru-spiritual yogi
trip as soft as they come, barefoot, ethereal voices creeping in the
edges of your hair, steel guitar used like a thin ray of sunshine
gleaming on a cymbal, light splashing around the room. seemingly
bogus seeker lyrics surprise and delight with cliches run backwards
and through a crystal pool. it works somehow, that when you think
you know what you should hear, you''ve only heard a shadow of it really,
and the truth is clearly ahead in something entirely new and unknown.
all over it may be too transient to stick to anyone. it is like breathing air,
and forgetting you are doing so. however, "Snow on a Mountain" truly is
a stunning track, and a desert island pick for the genre - magical, dark,
mid-winter ennui from the depths of the reclusive preoccupied 1970s."
"A relatively nice psych folk record with a very slight xian message in the
lyrical content. Mostly acoustic guitar and vocal. About 50% of the record
feels average and commonplace, and the other half has sparkling moments
that pull the weight. "Snow on a Mountain" is a true beauty, and probably
my favorite track. The eight minute closer runs a bit long, but is also a nice
song to end. Terrific cover art."
"Heaped with praise in The Acid Archives. They were totally right.
A rare vanity/private press facemelter with NO covers!"

“An Album of Original Music”
CD insert notes by Dennis Wilcox
"An Album of Original Music” was recorded in the summer of 1971. I had written
a number of songs by that time. Michael (Dub Debrie) Sullivan and I had co-
written "It''s All the Same", and we had worked up a couple of songs by Breezy
Cade and one by Matthew Littlemoon. We thought it would be "a fun thing to do”
to record them in a studio.
Michael, Judy, and I traveled from the Bay Area to Las Cruces, New Mexico via
my 1953 Chevrolet pickup to record at Goldust (Emmit Brooks) Studios. (Emmit
had built a studio addition to his home and constructed an underground live echo
chamber. We recorded on a four-track Ampex.) I arrived back home with a copy
of the final mix on reel-to-reel tape.
Stephen Hill, then a young disc jockey and sound engineer, now the creator and
producer of the long-time, syndicated “Hearts of Space” radio program, aired it in
tape form on his NPR radio show out of Berkeley, California. Had there been no
Stephen Hill, very likely, we would have never pressed the tape into an LP.
People phoned into the station and said, "Where do I get a copy?" We finally
decided to release the album on the Goldust Records label in 1973.
Michael (Dub Debrie) Sullivan went from a brilliant 19 year old musician on the
album to become a marvelous singer, songwriter, and beloved guitar player in
the Portland, Oregon area. My sister, Judy, still welcomes every opportunity she
has to drive to Portland from Napa, California to perform music with him. I still
play and sing when I am assured no one is looking.
Michael and I went on to form the Tomales Bay Band and released another
album on Goldust Records in 1976 (recorded in Emmit''s new recording studio in
Las Cruces). One of the last remaining copies of the original pressing of "An
Album of Original Music" sold on Ebay for $577. Following that, we saw copies
of our album, "Tomales Bay", listed for $100. Michael, Judy, and I thank all of
you for your heart-warming support of our music. It did indeed turn out to be
"a fun thing to do".
Thank you Douglas McGowan (Yoga Records) for encouraging Emmit and I to
re-release the record. Your suggestions have been invaluable.

P.S. A re-release of the vinyl album with an "old style" jacket like the original
is planned if there is sufficient interest to make it a viable project. If you would
be interested in one of these, email us at GoldustOne@https://www.tradebit.com. We will keep
you informed as to release date and price.
Special thanks to Vijali Hamilton for allowing us to use a photo of her inspiring
artwork for our album cover. It is difficult to walk past that cover and not be
curious about what might be inside. (There will never be a reproduction of that
piece of art that will match the majesty of standing face to face with it...
I thank you for that opportunity, Vijali.)
