Classic Rock N’ Roll With The Power Of Big Band For A 21st Century Mind
Samson Trinh & The Upper East Side Big Band presents their debut album, The Abbey Road Project. The idea started in Spring 2008 as leader/musical director, Samson Trinh and vocalist/pianist, Adrian Duke decided to reinterpret The Beatles’ Abbey Road masterpiece for a classic 19-piece big band. The ensemble would be made up of five saxophones, four trumpets, three trombones, keyboard, two guitars, bass, drums, and three vocalists: Duke, Allyson Mills-Steel, and Curtis Mills. That year, UESBB performed the album live in its entirety. Later on, UESBB members Taylor Barnett (trumpet) and Stefan Demtriadis (bass trombone) strongly recommended that Trinh record the project and introduce the world to a new musical journey down Abbey Road. Thus began a venture that would take nearly two years to complete.
Reinterpreting Abbey Road was a huge undertaking. To pay homage to The Beatles, UESBB didn’t want to approach this project like a tribute or cover band. The goal was to be original while at the same time, do the album justice. ORIGINAL: John Lennon’s vision of The Singles is sophisticatedly treated in a variety of styles: rock, chamber pieces, New Orleans, jazz, and big band swing. JUSTICE: Paul McCartney’s vision of The Medley is augmented with fantastic horn arrangements by Trinh. Simply put… The Abbey Road Project will blow your mind!
