"Bringing hardcore conscious music from the underground to the masses subjected to dysfunctional music."
In this high-tech wasteland, music has become a distraction rather than a tool for upliftment and satisfaction...well all bad things must come to an end. Thus the emergence of InI Mighty Lockdown--King Negus and Jolomite, survivors of the fittest, a fixture of the New York Underground Hip-Hop scene since the early nineties.
Starting with the groundbreaking InI single Faking Jax, produced by DJ Pete Rock and Mighty Lockdown''s weekly underground performances in New York''s East Village they made a recognizable mark on Hip Hop''s conscious scene.
In late 1995 InI & MLD was reborn as InIMLD. From that time on the group has continued to be successful even without the release of a full-length album. Although life has taken previous members to other pursuits, Jolomite and Negus continue the flow of energy that InI MLD originally created back in their living room in the nineties.
More than just wordsmiths InI MLD also focus their energies on other artists in their extended family Eye Tree Society and with Trus Fund''s in house production company PPT (Pinnacle Production Team). InIMLD''s label Trus Fund Inc. is known for their multimedia shows in New York. The show Flare: African Articulations (1 & 2) sold out two years back to back. The popular Rep Showcase became an on-going bi-monthly open mike event that drew both, well known artists as well as beginners for two years straight. In addition, collaborating with other venues, Jolo''s world class Ital (vegan) food on the OK Player Tour still has artists talking.
They also sparked the hot Authentic I-Wear Garments
T-shirt line. Making a statement by mostly wearing I-Wear clothing during performances, InI MLD expands upon the message of
self-reliance that is a staple of their lyrics. The popularity of I-Wear has reached Rolling Stone magazine, which featured an interview with Lauryn Hill wearing an Authentic I-Wear Garments T-shirt.
These lions pulling influences from their native Jamaican and Haitian backgrounds and Rastafarian livity, have given the sound of InIMLD a raw uniqueness.
From rocking live with the instrumental band Survival Soundz, to performing and hosting shows with Scienz of Life, Yejide The Night Queen, DeadPrez, Breeze Evah Flowing, C RayzWalz, Juggaknots, Mr. Len, The Roots, and other live musicians; and through their constant push to develop hip hop to higher heights with reality lyrics; InI Mighty Lockdown are truly carrying the names of their LP''s "The Keepers of The Flame" and "Conquerors"; dominating the new consciousness of Hip-Hop.
