Bio
Born and raised in Rwanda, Iggy Ry is an excellent songwriter with 20 years of experience. Iggy Ry started out like many African musicians playing percussions in a variety of social events in his native country of Rwanda, Central Africa. After learning how to play modern instruments, especially keyboards and guitars, Iggy Ry played with a number of Bands in Kigali, such as Nyampinga, Ingenzi, and Galaxy Band.
During the 1994 Genocide, Iggy fled the country and went to Boston MA where he attended the famed Berklee College of Music, concentrating on songwriting and production. While in Boston Iggy Ry worked with Pianist/Producer Marc Rossi to record 9 songs that were inspired by his war experiences. Two songs from this project were published by Berklee in the Fall of 1996 on a student compilation Album called "Berklee students making tracks."
Since 1996, Iggy has been living in Canada where he performs in a variety of venues throughout Ontario and Quebec. He is one of the guest vocalists and guitarists on Andrew McPherson''s Album "Eccodeck." He is currently a regular at some of Montreal''s and Ottawa''s hottest clubs. Iggy Ry''s style is a perfect fusion of African music and modern genres such Rock and Blues. "My Shoes," Iggy''s soon-to-be-released debut album, is an excellent demostration of his talent as a singer/songwriter, combining traditional Afro beats with a new sound that reaches far beyond today''s musical etiquettes.
