SIX STRINGS. ONE GUITAR. AND A WHOLE LOT OF JOY:
Amidst the noise and the clutter of the holiday CD rack, there are still a few rare gems - like Vince Guaraldi''s Charlie Brown Christmas and The Ramsey Lewis Trio''s Sound of Christmas - that we return to again and again.
Jeremy Abbate''s "Fifth & St. Nick: Seasonal Songs Re-Imagined for Solo Guitar" is the latest of those timeless gems.
Uniquely conceived, beautifully rendered, fresh and bursting with personality, this is one of the most intimate and spirited holiday albums you''ll ever listen to. And you won''t believe that each richly textured tune is just ONE GUITAR PLAYING!
A debut instrumental album from songwriter/composer Jeremy Abbate, one of the freshest talents in the guitar-playing universe, "Fifth & St. Nick" is sure to enter into the pantheon of great holiday listening experiences.
Born in New York City and raised in Moorestown, New Jersey, Jeremy Abbate has been strumming, picking and plucking his guitar strings since age seven. Growing up in a house where music was constantly being played (by a father who loved jazz, classical and blues; a mother who listened to popular crooners and Tin Pan Alley fare; and two brothers who blasted everything from big bands to Led Zeppelin) Abbate absorbed it all and channeled it back into his fretboard.
His relationship with the guitar thus became a relationship with music itself. He has infused rock''n''roll playing with classical melodies; he has introduced folk tunings and finger picking into a jazz repertoire; and he has shaded his compositions with blues, ethnic and world sounds, and even 12-tone scales. He firmly believes (and his music makes clear) that the acoustic guitar is capable of much more than what most people consider typical "acoustic music."
Abbate''s indefinable melodic approach informs all of his varied musical projects, especially this wholly satisfying collection of holiday songs. The latest release from the Musique Impossible imprint of the Waxfruit/Stereorrific Recordings label, "Fifth & St. Nick", with its simple, elegant production along with fresh arrangements and a superior playing technique, promises to have listeners entranced well past December.
