WORLD: Judaica

Details:
The album of Jewish folk music in the style of Debbie Friedman includes 13 cuts in Hebrew. The first five are from the Friday evening Kabbalat Shabbat service (L’chu N’ranenah, Oseh Shalom, V’shamru, Eyshet Chayil and Adom Olam). The next four are from the Saturday morning liturgy (Kel Adon, Or Chadash, Kel Nah and Sim Shalom). And the last four are from other Jewish texts (L’Shannah Haba’ah, V’haya, Mi Haish and Lo Yisa Goy).

"The music on this album is a combination of music that both touches your soul and at the same time brings joy to you as a result of having a connection to Judaism," said Rabbi Marvin Richardson, spiritual leader of Jericho (Long Island) Jewish Center and former associate rabbi at East Brunswick Jewish Center. "There are a number of songs he has created that will cause you to close your eyes while you are singing — that’s a spiritual moment."

"Services should be owned by the congregation, which should really participate in it," Rabbi Ze’ev Harari spiritual leader of Congregation Am Echod in Lindenhurst, Ill., northwest of Chicago, which uses Frankel’s melodies for Sim Shalom and Adon Olam, said. "That’s why I choose his melodies that are easy to sing and to learn. Music is his passion, for sure."

Those who hear Frankel’s music describe it as “beautifully uplifting and joyous”.
