Chelsey Bellnier was born on a typically cold winter morning in Syracuse, New York 1990. She lived in the same house with her grandparents. When her grandfather was younger he was in a band, while at the same time her grandmother was into singing. Chelsey was sure to obtain some sort of musical talent, especially because all of her grandfather’s siblings were musically inclined.
In 1996, Chelsey’s family had moved Atlanta, Georgia. This was the same year she had realized she wanted to sing more, including in front of larger groups of people. So after realizing this, Chelsey began taking voice lessons with Gwinnett Music. Chelsey''s instructors name was Carol McCurdy, the same instructor that Diana Degarmo had taken instruction from. During her instruction, she was writing and performing her own songs at small concert events put on by Gwinnett Music. Chelsey’s knowledge in the music industry was beginning to grow.
By the year 2000, Chelsey had found a well known choir group named, The Gwinnett Young Singers of Atlanta. This choir was nominated in 2002 for a Grammy Award for the CD recording of “Carmina Burana” with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. Furthermore, this choir is well-known for its mastery of challenging repertoire and exceptionally high musical standard.
Chelsey has sung several seasons with GYS and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra in "Christmas with the ASO" and have been featured in the PBS National Television Broadcast of "Christmas with Robert Shaw". Other performances she has sang with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra include Bizet''s Opera, "Carmen," "Kid''s Holiday Concerts," "Hallelujah, Handel," Carl Orff''s "Carmina Burana," Benjamin Britten''s "War Requiem," John Adam''s "El Nino", and Howard Shore''s “The Lords of the Rings". Chelsey has also performed in front of thousands of Music Educators at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. Some of the other smaller events Chelsey has sung with are events such as Crayola Convention, Spivey Hall in Atlanta, and both spring and fall performances with GYS.
While singing with GYS, Chelsey was further vocally instructed by one of the best in the choir business, Mrs. Urda. Mrs. Urda holds a degree in Music Education and Voice from Florida State University School of Music. She has been a Music Specialist in the Georgia and Massachusetts public schools and has spent most of her professional life serving as a church musician, directing children, youth, and adult choirs. One other note regarding Mrs. Urda, is that her daughter was one of Amy Grants backup singers and has trained Chelsey before.
The Gwinnett Young Singers wasn’t the only singing functions Chelsey had in her life. She was singing around town in various festivals, talent shows, and plays. With her father’s persistence for finding Chelsey a contact for her next level of her career, he had spoken with High Tower Records, a Christian label. In 2004, Chelsey had signed with the record label. Chelsey had completed her CD with High Tower Records in March, 2005. At this point, Chelsey began to sing from church to church, carrying her music equipment with her performing in most cases more than one concert a day. She has been interviewed by a couple of radio stations, including News Talk 1270. Her music is also being played on several radio stations across the state of Georgia. With sending out demo after demo and performing here and there, Chelsey remained optimistic that one day, she will make it big. At this point in her singing career, Chelsey is ready to make any sacrifice she has to within reason, to fulfill her dream. She wants to be a country singer.
In June, 2005 Chelsey and her father traveled to Nashville, Tennessee to meet with a recording company named, HMG Nashville. HMG produces projects, promotes selected songs from within those projects, and sends off demos to various radio stations in search for your dream. Chelsey has completed her second CD titled, "So Sweet". This CD was released on December 5, 2005. The CD includes mostly Country songs with one or two Christian Country songs.
Participating in the Inspirational Country Week which was held in Nashville, TN during the week of November 5th thru 12th 2005, was quite an experience for Chelsey. She had competed in a Talent Show which included various artists from across the U.S. In addition, she had attended the ICM Awards show live.
Chelsey''s dream is to one day make it to the top!
