no secrets here... this is a dedication cd of 11 songs to my parents, bill and rose murrey. both are joined together again in the bosom of our lord now and are missed greatly by me, my brothers billy, tony and sis rose marie. bill and rose walked through life creating beauty and touching so many people with that beautiful light. they constantly encouraged and gave inspiration to us kids and others too numerous to name. this cd of songs contains memories, dreams, dedications and celebrations to them. it also contains tunes which both found enjoyable or nuturing. opinions were not hard to coax from rose murrey, she could deliver a "to the point" synopsis in a sentence or two and render a verdict on what she liked and what she didn''t. this honesty always helped me in songcrafting and subject matter. daddy bill, on the other hand... kinda rolled with the flow and took the best from everything, imparting a slightly bent and humorous angle to it on the way. together, bill and rose forged a love and bond that will go down in human history as one of the most balanced, loving, sharing, caring and just plain "awesome" love affairs... period. it is to them, this cd is dedicated.
steven cooper produced with the regular cast of characters and another all-star cast of singers... some personally requested (ray barnette) by rose murrey, just because she could!
"forever"... a song about committment and the timeless thing that is love. mom really enjoyed this melody and the way it was sung by ray barnette.
"songs i should have wrote"... sitting listening to the great ones, sipping wine and thinking about great songs... and great loves... both mom and dad enjoyed a good tear jerker and lance miller sold this one.
"my name ain''t jesus"... a perfect come back to someone who always wants you to perform a miracle! mom loved this one ''cause she associated with it so much! ray barnette gave it his all.
"my mama''s eyes"... trying to live life like mom taught... tying to see through her eyes at all things... and hoping to do her proud. brian glenn sang it.
"in the mirror"... two perspectives on lost love and wanting reconciliation... looking within. mom loved this song, always said it would be an awesome video! ray barnette & juli manners make it work.
"my daddy"... the lessons imparted and the legacy a father leaves behind. mak kaylor did this justice.
"mama spanked me with the bible"... true to life... when i was bad little boy once, mom couldn''t hold me and find a switch, so she grabbed the nearest thing on the coffee table... the family bible and she tanned my backside with it. i''ll always remember that one! ray barnette sang it for her... made her very happy, although she said she pulled a back muscle beating the hell outta me!
"thank you"... getting to a point in life where you can say thank you to someone no matter what they did to you... maturity maybe? this one made mom cry, which made me cry... and so on and so on! sung by ray barnette.
"it ain''t much"... the simplest things in life are the most important... just saying "i love you" is worth more than tons of bling-bling. i wrote this one for my wife, sheila because i may never amount to much but i wanted her to know i''d never trade our love for material things. mom never met sheila but dad did and he said mom would have loved her... i know it. vocalized by mak kaylor.
"toy soldiers"... a history of brothers and growing into manhood... mom always got misty listening to this one. her favoriter singer... ray barnette.
"50 years & growing"... song for their 50th anniversary and it could have only been sung by ray barnette & juli manners.
