Carson Ritz, The One Man Show
Rising star’s unique sound demands diverse audience
CINCINNATI, OH, December 8, 2005--Nineteen years of rural Indiana living. Thirteen years of classical piano training. Eight years of self-taught producing. Countless sleepless nights leading to countless original compositions. Countless dedicated fans packing countless sold-out shows.
One man fits these descriptions: Carson Ritz.
The poet of every lyric, the composer of every beat, the singer of every vocal, the engineer of every masterpiece, Carson exemplifies his slogan, “One Man Show.” He has taught himself everything he knows. He has branded his sound. Clever, witty, unique, fresh--one-hundred percent original is his theme, a theme that sprints in a marathon of walkers, a theme that shouts in a crowd of talkers. Carson’s music is easily identifiable but not easily describable, easily recognized but not easily categorized. But while he concocts a stew of sounds unlike any other wizard in the business, his musical genius comes with an unexpected flavor.
Hip hop.
Caucasian, classical, clean-cut, casual, Carson Ritz is not your typical rapper. He is a thinker, a writer, a poet who refuses to settle for a word just because it sounds good. Not only do Carson’s lyrics rhyme, not only do they flow, but they reflect the hours of thought--and the lifetime of meaning--behind them. His sheltered, small-town life naturally brands his sound. He conveys a message that everyone can relate to: listeners of rap to country, pop to classical. White, black, young, old. Everyone. Everyone appreciates his music for the poetic flow, the vocal delivery, the musical theory, the classical techniques.
“I can easily notice Carson [Ritz] has a deep musical background,” comments Don Hammonds, a local producer of rock music. “Every song he [Carson Ritz] makes sticks in my head for hours, even days sometimes. I honestly think he has a brain disease that makes him sound better than everyone else!” Hammonds, who plays in a rock band himself, marvels Carson’s ability to relate to all musical backgrounds, his ability to make a new song unlike the last yet still recognizable as a Carson Ritz production.
Because of his diverse audience, Carson packs his shows. Always carrying a tote bag of natural stage presence with him, his unique sound and vocal variety hypnotize the audience. He ranges his vocal frequencies from a high-pitched Bee-Gees jive to a laid-back 50 Cent slur to a raspy Carson Ritz flow, unlike any other. Not only does he know his audience inside and out, he always plays one extra note, one unexpected chord: the element of surprise. From backstage guests to piano solos to piano/vocal combinations to unheard songs, Carson uses surprise to his advantage. Audiences have rushed stages, chanted for encores, begged for autographs, even demanded classical piano solos. Carson listens. He knows what the audience wants, and he delivers.
Just as Carson knows his audience, he knows his market. Over the last five years, Carson has produced five original CDs and has sold nearly 2,500 copies to parents, kids, teachers, and friends of every race and musical preference. No record label. No agent. No manager. No advertiser. No distributor.
Just Carson.
Carson Ritz was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1986 and lived his entire life in Brookville, Indiana, a rural town of about 3,000. At age five, he began to study classical piano, and by kindergarten he had already written his first rap lyrics titled “Everybody Knows.” He began experimenting with computer-based software around fifth grade when he purchased Steinberg Cubase VST. Teaching himself how to use the program simply through repetition, Carson began to apply his musical knowledge and make music. With silly, meaningless raps at first, he developed over time into the unique, one-hundred percent original style of today.
Growing up with all types of music, playing all types of music, Carson has many influences. “Although I do have several musical idols, I am not satisfied with being the idolizer,” states Carson. “I want to be the idol.” While he does not like to compare his work to other artists’, he does say he would have to attribute his hip hop style to influences from modern artists such as Dr. Dre, The White Stripes, N.E.R.D., and 50 Cent, as well as from Classical composers such as Beethoven, Schubert, and Haydn; Baroque composers such as Bach; and Romantic composers such as Rachmaninoff and Chopin. “Jeez, I could go on and on,” Carson chuckles. “But the bottom line is these guys know how to make music.”
While all these artists exist, only one man can sculpt them into a monument of unique poetry, a model of innovative art he can call his own.
That one man is Carson Ritz, the “One Man Show.”
