The original version of this piece is in d-minor
and contained sections in which the upper two staves
were accompanied by a consort of instruments. This
edition fills in those instrumental sections with words
(as may have been done by singers of the time),
making the piece suitable for an SSATTB acapella
choir. Meters were simplified, slurs added to melismatic
passages, and dynamics marked. A few words were
shifted to make some timing issues easier. Lastly,
several notes in the third staff were shifted by an
octave to better suit the range of the altos.
This edition was prepared for a Good Friday concert
in 2008 to be performed by Phoenix Rising,
a chamber choir based in American Fork, Utah.
